The Macquarie Street Psychology Postgraduate
The Macquarie Street Psychology Postgraduate Scholarship
As part of our commitment to supporting the mental health of the LGBTQIAP+ community, Macquarie Street Psychology funds the Macquarie Street Psychology Postgraduate Scholarship for a postgraduate psychology student who is conducting research focused on improving the mental health outcomes of members of the LGBTQIAP+ community. The scholarship funds research-related costs, clinical and research training in the area of LGBTQIAP+ mental health, conference attendance, and other postgraduate-related costs.
2021 scholarship recipient
Dr. Sonia Terhaag is the 2021 recipient of the Macquarie Street Psychology Postgraduate Scholarship. Sonia’s research will investigate the emotional trajectories of LGBTQIAP+ people over the course of childhood and adolescence to identify points of divergence that can be targeted for suicide prevention. The project will form the basis of her Master of Psychology (Clinical) thesis to assess suicide risk factors across sociodemographic, psychosocial, and school factors using a longitudinal cohort study of Australian children. Her background is in trauma-related experiences and research with trauma-exposed or at-risk populations. She specializes in longitudinal analyses and taking a lifecourse perspective to mental health.
